How To Obtain A Distinction Grade in H2 Economics
… In the Quickest & Surest Way
Truly A Top Econs Tutor in Singapore!
Mr Jack Tan must be one of Singapore’s top Econs tutor right now! He is a very dedicated and hardworking tutor. When I first joined his H2 Economics tuition classes at the beginning of JC2, my grades then were hovering around S-E grades.
However, Mr Tan’s innovative and refreshing teaching methods of answering the questions really paid off for me! His experienced teachings showed me how to identify each Econs essay question into the pre-determined types. Then, for each type, we get the opportunity not only to learn, but to internalise each and every exam technique with certainty.
Mr Tan’s classes were more than just about Economics. He made it engaging, fun, interesting and enjoyable. Econs surely became my favourite subject, especially when I realised that i could score with the techniques that he taught us, for both essay and Econs case studies.
As long as we were willing to put in the extra effort to improve our Econs, he would contribute even more, such as by marking our additional Econs essays and giving us feedback before the actual lesson starts.
Mr Jack Tan himself was more than a tutor, he was a friend, and confidant that our class could trust. He helped me and my friends through the most difficult period of studies, and that was the thing which I am most grateful for.
Thank you very much, Mr Tan!

Dear student, are you still having problems managing your H2 Economics subject (Syllabus Code: 9757 / 9732)? If you are receiving H2 Economics tuition right now, is it working for you…at all? Are you facing increasing amounts of frustration in this Higher 2 (H2) A-Level subject, to the point that you feel like giving up? Quick Links: . Econs Tuition Centre . Econs Private Tuition . Economics Tutors . H2 Syllabus, Notes & Topics
Well, in brief, all a H2 Econs pupil in Singapore needs for a distinction are
i) Econs Content Knowledge,
ii) Econs Exam Skills and
iii) Econs Exam Time Management,
of which component two (Exam Skills) has the biggest weighting. And out of the various required exam techniques across Economics essays and case studies, the emphasis are huge on application, analysis and evaluation.
So, which of the above 3 Economics answering techniques are you most comfortable with? For most students, it is NONE of the above! (And that is exactly what we focus on on both our Econs group lessons at our H2 Economics tuition centre and in our H2 Economics private tuition.
Our Economics Specialists will ensure you get to internalise these exam skills, so that you can obtain your distinction grade for this subject in the shortest time possible. Guaranteed!) If you do not have the critically vital exam skills and techniques of Application, Analysis and Evaluation, you can only obtained a Grade ‘C’, at best… The good news is: you can learn all these higher order thinking skills.
Once learnt, regardless of any topic you are being tested on, you will breeze through your A-Level H2 Economics exams! Most students realise the nightmare when they are in JC2 – Economics lecturers rushing through every single lecture, just to finish the prescribed Scheme of work (SOW), and students are numb to that treatment.
(View JC2 H2 Econs Tuition here, or JC1 H2 Econs Tuition here)
In tutorials in most junior colleges (JCs), most Econs tutors merely reteach the topics covered in lectures. (Did we make these all up? NO! This is the conclusion drawn, after our numerous surveys with ex- and existing Econs students across various JCs.) We normally term these teachers – Content Reproduction Representatives™ (CRRs for short). And sad to say, there are a lot out there…

H2 Economics Tuition – Our Methodology at Adam Smith Economics Tuition Centre
The first component has to do with what you, as an H2 Economics student, are supposed to be tested. Naturally, we initially will spend a short moment on the thorough understanding of the H2 Economics syllabus.
For each part of the syllabus, our Econs teachers for H2 will provide a short yet effective exam diagnosis, so that there is absolute clarity on what is tested (and what’s not). The next portion on the necessary Econs content for H2 exams is the H2 Economics notes.
As expected, we provide a complete and comprehensive set of H2 Econs notes, that comprises each and every single H2 Economics topic that are examined in this 9757 / 9732 Syllabus Code subject.
For the notes part, it is simple: there are only 3 main topics for Microeconomics – Market Mechanism, Market Failure & Market Structures. To minimise duplication, we only cover the sections of each topic that have proven to be really troublesome and difficult to understand and apply.
We guarantee you that we are not another CRR! In fact, we can assure that the way we conduct our Econs tuition lessons is fun and engaging. How do we do it? We have learnt and incorporated Accelerated-Learning Strategies (ALS), combined and enhanced from Blair Singer, the teacher of accelerated learning, and originally created by Georgi Lozanov.

2) (Higher-Order Thinking) Exam Skills
Are you aware that you can only secure your distinction when you possess and can demonstrate the ability to apply, analyse and evaluate? (This is NOT O-Levels. Without these answering strategies, one cannot do well in JC Econs in S’pore.)
Here is what we have done: A proven and innovative way to answering ANY exam question for Economics! After painstakingly going through over 30 years of previous Cambridge exam papers, we have managed to remove all uncertainties and fear of Econs exams: we have classified EACH & EVERY TYPE OF QUESTION INTO ITS TYPES & CATEGORIES!
(See the award we received for our innovation and effort here!)
Here is where we really shine:
1. All Part A questions can be nicely catergorised into merely 4 types?
2. All Part B (Evaluation) questions, though difficult and challenging, can split it into 5 distinct options. Each option when learnt, will guarantee you achieve 3 or 4 marks, out of a possible total of 4 marks, guaranteed! In addition, each of our lesson ensures students learn effortless.
This is via the use of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Our founder has the great blessing to have learnt directly from Richard Bandler, the original creator of NLP Through our unique approach of Neuro Distinction Anchoring Techniques™ (NDAT), our Economics are able to
- learn faster,
- remember more,
- recall quicker and
- still have fun and engaging at the same time!
In addition, each of our lesson ensures students learning is effortless and permanent!. This is via the use of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Our founder, is an internationally certified and licenced NLP Practitioner, and had the unique fortune to have learnt directly from Richard Bandler, the original creator of NLP.
3) Time Management Techniques
Every lesson, as we mastered the key concepts, as well as the vital exam techniques and answering techniques, we put you the carefully prepared writing exercises.
This will see you gaining writing experience and speed. In particular, our Split Writing Strategy™ (SWS), though deceptively simple, will truly manifest its effectiveness, once you see the strategy put to use, in your H2 Econs essays and case studies.
In addition, and more importantly, the writing practice will allow you to internalise the various Economics exam skills. After all, skills cannot be memorised; they can only be internalised by you!
At the same time, another way to save time is to be stronger in your set of exam skills, required to be demonstrated in JC Economics examinations! And there are:
- 2 are Lower-Order Thinking (LOT) skills: Knowledge; Comprehension, and
- 3 are High-Order Thinking (HOT) ones: Application; Analysis; Evaluation
In our H2 Econs tuition classes, we reveal early that these HOT skills account for almost 80% of the marks allotted. Meaning if you do not know how to demonstrate the 3 HOTs, your Econs distinction will remain elusive.. And this is true, regardless of H1 or H2 Economics.
The fact is, at least 9 out of 10 students in S’pore do not know these 3 are the required H.O.T. skills! That is why most pupils cannot excel in this subject. Not only do they then do only medicorely in JC, this also rather adversely affects their future path, in the university, the place they work, their social network and circle of friends, opportunities, life partner, business partners and network…
In other words, A-Levels’ indeed worth doing well!! If just because of one subject, the future outcome maybe otherwise.. That is why we will everything in our power to make sure you secure the grade you desire.

H2 Economics Tuition– Economics Exam Skills
Many JC Economics pupils in Singapore merely know one type – Causes & Effects. Almost none are unaware of the other 2 types (States and Features types), let alone the necessary exam techniques to secure a Level 3 (L3) response for a worthy ‘A’ grade. Not to mention the 4 types of Part B essay parts..
(For more information on case study exam skills, read here on H1 Economics.)
Let’s examine one of the most important H1 & H2 Economics topics tested in the A-Level Economics in Singapore – Exchange Rates. Here is a sample of a typical question pitched at JC2 Prelim-Exam/A-Level Exam standard:
(a) Explain under a flexible exchange rate system, the reasons for an appreciation of a currency in an economy. [10 marks]
(b) Discuss how governments might use the concept price elasticity of demand to predict the effect of an appreciation of her currency on her Balance of Trade. [15 marks]
How many of you will choose to attempt this question? How many of you won’t? You now what? Most will choose the latter. While the answer to Part A is obviously about demand and supply reasons relating to this price – exchange rates – of one currency in terms of another, the supply reasons are not easy to be explained.
You need a particular answering technique to overcome the barrier to L3 (Level 3). As for Part B, the challenge is more on the scope of evaluation, and less on the preceding analysis. For uninformed students, they might evaluate the limitations of exchange rate policy.
For others, they may resort to evaluation of effects, that is, the evaluation involves making judgement on the overall outcomes or consequences.
However, neither answering methods will yield the E2 (Evaluation 2) grade response.. Therefore:
1) You need content knowledge, exam skills and good time management to excel in this subject.
2) Exam skills, especially the higher-order thinking ones are the main component of your Economics distinction.
3) For every part A and B essay question, it can be categorised into question types. Additionally, do you know that all Part A questions are considered as “Positive Statements” and Part Bs as “Normative Statements”?
Just by knowing this, we at Adam Smith Economics tuition centre, are able to construct a systematic, step-by-step, proven approach to answering all questions, including
i) understanding fully question requirements
ii) be mindful of application to the market or economy
iii) be skillful of the exemplification of details so as to fulfill analysis, and
iv) be thoughtful of outcomes of events, policies, etc, so as to demonstrate evaluation And this is what we do in our A-Level Economics tuition classes, be it H2 Econs or H1 Econs.
Effectively, we supplement what most junior colleges (JCs) and schools may not do enough – the exam skills – due to time constraints, etc. Our main emphasis on exam answering techniques is what the market know our H2 Economics tuition course for.
Other Benefits & Features of Our Econs Lessons:
A) Customised Lessons According to Different JCs
Different JCs in Singapore conduct the various JC Econs topics in different sequences, hence our H2 Economics tuition revision course is designed in this way too! For example, students from RIJC will be in a class where they cover all Microeconomics topics in JC1 in the following sequence: Market Mechanism, Market Structures and finally Market Failure.
Economics tuition classes run from Market Mechanism, Market Failure to Market Structures for JC pupils from Catholic JC. As for students from Dunman High School (DHS), after Market Mechanism and Market Failure, they will continue to Macro-Econs topics. Yet for Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) Econs students, immediately after Market Mechanism, they switch to the coverage of Macroeconomic Indicators, Aims and Policies.
Our Econs tutors have painstakingly, and with the best efforts to create and design this customisation of teaching of Economics.
